Exquisite book project

My newest page on one of three collaborative accordion books, produced "exquisite corpse" style with artists Trish Shepard and Kathy Honea. One of the most fun and quirky projects I've participated in!

Workshop at Anderson Ranch

From June 2-6 I taught a one-week workshop at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, CO. Titled "Exploring Alternative Processes" the students used their images to explore techniques for output and to use in mixed media pieces. The week was packed with information, experimentation, and occasional dancing.

Students printed on aluminum sheets, aluminum foil and fabric, and transferred to wood, plastic, metal, and leather.

Printing on gold leaf

Getting ready an experiment - direct printing on gold leaf!

Transient
For this first experiment, I wanted an image that would highlight the gold leaf, so Aspen trees in fall seemed like an obvious choice - I never think that paper does the gold leaves of fall justice when printed. The print quality was better than I hoped, but I need to improve my technique for laying the gold leaf more smoothly. I also attempted to smooth it with a soft steel wool, but that was not a good choice as it scratched the surface even with light pressure.

Love Polaroids

Technically, this is actually Fuji InstaFilm...

Found this little gem while organizing my image library. I love making spontaneous images in the middle of more long term research projects. This one was such an image, made with a few things collected on a very, very rainy 9-mile solo backpacking trip.
